Internet-PR

Gladwell’s Tipping Point has changed the way I view the internet when it comes to public relations.  The internet has been very effective n making life easier and so of course it is a way for consumers to reach their audiences. I agree with Gladwell that the internet should be quick, dramatic change, addictive and with a large effect because that is what made the internet so popular. The internet is a great way to tip a product. The internet can be addictive but only if you let it. For example I had myspace and I thought I would never get rid of it because I was so addicted. But one day I deleted it and that was it my life didn’t change at all :) .

When Gladwell makes a lot of his points about advertising and the “successful internet” I feel he’s not as genius as some people think he is. Since I am an advertising minor a lot of his points are well known to me. I have had them shoved into my brain numerous times by my advertising teachers.

I really like Scott’s idea about the web being a marketplace of ideas.  With the web at our fingertips people all over the world can share ideas, allowing all humans to advance to another level. The web is also advancing the way people can reach out to each other. Scott, Center and Jackson are all stating that effective marketing and PR is all about changing behavior.  The changing behavior occurs when you do something differently despite what you feel about the product or organization. I like reading the cases in the Center and Jackson book because they give insight into realistic situations.

How I feel about blogging

I’m not sure how I feel about blogging yet. It seems it can be useful in some cases, but currently I don’t see how it will be useful for me. I think it can also not be so useful because others are able to see how you feel and think and may not form the right oponions about you, but I guess that’s the point and it shouldn’t matter. I’m sure I’ll have more of an oponion about blogging when I do it a little more.
